Punta Arenas- day 4

Today was a travel day for us. We took a flight from Santiago to Puerto Montt and then from there to Punta Arenas. Punta Arenas is a charming, southern most, city in Chile and is a staging point for trips to Antartica (see maps). It is located on the Straight of Magellan in the Patagonia region. They call the region ¨el fin del mundo¨ or ¨the end of the earth¨ which is fitting for this remote place.

There was a remarkable change in temperature. In Santiago we were drenched with sweat and now Punta Arenas feels like the midwest or Boston. The temperature was 40 degrees today and we had to break out our cold weather clothing. Its weird to fly 20 hours and be back to the same temperature i left.

We´re staying in a nice hotel that was much more expensive than expected. The rooms are about $200/night for good rooms ,but small.
